A Minden man set to show up for a review on deferred sentencing Tuesday was nowhere to be found, according to his attorney Kevin Walsh.

Michael Shane Mason, 20, formerly of Paradise, Calif., pleaded guilty of conspiracy to possess a stolen motor vehicle, a gross misdemeanor. He has entered The Well Ministries in Chico, Calif., and had been doing well until his mother-in-law reported him missing, Walsh said.

Walsh and his family are currently unaware of Mason's whereabouts.

Mason was arrested in March 2005 after a man reported spotting his stolen Honda Civic in a Minden parking lot. Mason and Chad Jason Thomas were taken into custody.

n The sentencing date for a South Lake Tahoe woman who pleaded guilty to forgery and fraud has been set for Oct. 3.

Ramona Faye Madore, 37, pleaded guilty to embezzlement and uttering a forged instrument.

On Feb. 16 and 28, Madore was caught forging three checks, totally $1,200. She cashed the checks knowing they were forged, according to reports.

Madore stole checks and property from her landlord. The checks found were made out to Madore and the victim's name had been forged.

Madore has previous convictions for DUI and unlawful use of a controlled substance. Last November, Madore was sentenced to 180 days in Douglas County Jail for a second offense DUI, and had entered and successfully completed the Sierra Recovery Center program, according to reports.

Earlier this year, Madore tested positive for methamphetamine. She placed herself back in Sierra Recovery Center in May but was terminated from the program in late July based on negative behavior and violating the program's rules.

"You better get your life straightened out," District Judge Norm Robison warned Madore.

n A Valley woman was told to enter Sierra Recovery Center after violating her probation.

Amber Bennett, 29, was arrested by the Washoe Tribe on Aug. 3 for drinking, which was a violation of her probation for unlawful taking of a motor vehicle.

Her blood-alcohol content was .081. She completed a substance evaluation and has been in jail for the past 13 days.

Bennett's attorney, Tod Young, said Bennett wanted to stop drinking and pay her $100 a month child support.

She had lost her license because of it and was looking for work.

Bennett will have to pay for the Sierra Recovery Center program herself, approximately $1,200, but there is a chance she may get assistance from the Washoe Tribe, according to Young.

Bennett seemed in good spirits at being given another chance.

"You have to do it this time. You have to get off the booze," Robison told her.
