The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is currently taking registration for the NFL Youth Flag Football League.

The league teaches boys and girls the fundamentals of football, good sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive, non-contact way.

Players receive a reversible NFL flag jersey, mouthpiece and individual trophy. All games will be played on Saturdays at Stodick Park.

Participants will be divided into four age groups (6-8 coed, 9-11 coed and 12-14 coed). Players must be at least 6 and not 15 by Sept. 1, 2006.

Coaches will randomly choose teams through a draft system.

Volunteer coaches and sponsors are needed. Background checks will be required for all volunteer coaches. Registration is being accepted until Aug. 18 and the games will begin Sept. 9 and the cost will be $60 per participant. For more information, call the parks & recreation department at 782-9828.

Possible fall baseball team

The Carson City Little League will be conducting a "Fall Ball" instructional baseball league during the months of September and October and several Carson Valley residents are trying to organize a Douglas County team to participate in the minors division.

The league will be kid-pitch for ages 9-10 and it costs $25 for a dozen games and a shirt and cap. All games will be played at Edmonds Park in South Carson City.

Ability isn't as important as enthusiasm as organizers are looking for children that love baseball and want to play a little more in the offseason.
