Helping students through donations

School is about to start and it's time to think of those students in Douglas County elementary and middle schools who need assistance with supplies to complete their school work. Project School Days, now in its ninth year, is a non-profit organization that fills requests from teachers for their students that need school materials. Requested supplies range from crayons, pens and pencils to notebooks, dictionaries, backpacks and calculators. This program has been approved by Superintendent of Schools Carol Lark.

A generous community makes this project possible by donating money that is used to purchase supplies or by collecting and donating school supplies. All the materials are donated to children in Douglas County.

The main distribution takes place the first part of September but teachers may request supplies at any time during the school year. Last year approximately 30 percent of the district teachers participated giving supplies to about 495 kids, (about 9.5 percent of the student enrollment).

Project School Days is a non-profit organization, so contributions are tax deductible. Checks may be mailed to: Project School Days, P. O. Box 5458, Gardnerville, NV 89410. For further information on how you may help, call Marilyn Malkmus at 782-4931.
