State Treasuer Brian Krolicki, of Stateline, easily defeated Las Vegan Barbara Lee Woollen in the Republican primary for lieutenant governor.
Krolicki received 57,760 votes to Woollen's 36,121, and will go on to meet Democrat Las Vegan Bob Unger in the general election.
Krolicki's race was marred by negative press generated by Woolen, whose company ended up suing the treasurer.
According to the Nevada Secretary of State's Office, incumbent John Ensign and hopeful Jack Carter handily defeated their opponents to meet in the general election for Ensign's seat in the U.S. Senate. Carter defeated Carson City resident Ruby Jee Tun 92,238 votes to 11,145. Jee Tun actually came in third in the race, losing to none of these candidates by 3,000 votes.
Ensign garnered 127,028 votes to win his primary race. Coming in a distant second was none of these candidates, followed by "Fast Eddie" Hamilton.
Results posted on the state Web site shows Dean Heller with a razor-thin margin over his Republican opponent for U.S. Congress, Sharron Angle. Heller reeled in 24,781 votes to Angle's 24,353. Dawn Gibbons received 17,328 votes. If confirmed, Heller will meet Valley resident Jill Derby in the general election.
Republican Jim Gibbons and Democrat Dina Titus will meet in the general election for governor. Titus defeated challenger Jim Gibson, 64,006 votes to 42,973 while Gibbons beat challenger Bob Beers by 67,748 votes to 40,884.
The general election race for secretary of state will come down to Republican Danny Tarkanian against Democrat Ross Miller. Miller's challenger, Roderick Boyd received fewer votes than none of these candidates. Tarkanian's opponent Brian Scroggins kept the race close, losing 64,258 votes to 56,725.
Predictions that Kathy Augustine might win the race for state treasurer from the grave proved to be false, though she did come in a distant second.
Mark Destafano will be the Republican nominee for the seat, defeating Augustine, who died July 11, 57,051 votes to 26,391. Augustine came out ahead of none of these candidates and Joseph Pitts, who came in dead last.
Destefano will meet Democrat Kate Marshal in the general election. Marshal trounced opponent Geoffrey Vanderpal, 74,687 votes to 23,047. But at least Vanderpal came out ahead of none of these candidates.
In the non-partisan races, Nevada Supreme Court justices Nancy Becker and Michael L. Douglas won their primaries. Becker will face second place winner Nancy Saitta and Douglas will see a rematch of his last campaign against Cynthia "Dianne" Steel."
In University Board of Regents Race District 9, Ron Knect lead the pack to win the primary. He will face second-place winner David H. Fulstone II in the general election.
