The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club hosted a two-man better ball tournament at the Carson Valley Golf Course Sunday.
Joe Morrison and Paul Anthony won the A flight with a 58 and Eric Norgrove and Gary Louie took second with a 60.
Randy Patterson and Richard Brown took third with a 61.
In the B flight, Jim Bagley and Russ Coons took first with a 55. Chris Peters Jr. and Roger Hala took second with a 57 and Jim Gaughan and Tom Betterton took third with a 61.
Neil Bain and Pete Rogney won the C flight with a 54 and David Dick and Dennis Joseph shot a 55 to take second. Mark Smith and Michael Gamberg tied with Ken Sharples and Larry Plemmons for third with a 57.
Mick Ryan and Richard Ryan shot a 56 to take first in the D flight. Paul Lockwood and Ray Gardiol tied second with John Elliott and Norm Finan after shooting a 59.
Bryan O'Leary earned closest to the pin honors with a shot that landed 16 feet away on No. 1.

NFL youth flag football league
The Douglas County Parks & Recreation Department is currently taking registration for the NFL Youth Flag Football League.
The league teaches boys and girls the fundamentals of football, good sportsmanship and teamwork in a fun, non-competitive, non-contact way.
Players receive a reversible NFL flag jersey, mouthpiece and individual trophy. All games will be played on Saturdays at Stodick Park.
Participants will be divided into four age groups (6-8 coed, 9-11 coed and 12-14 coed). Players must be at least 6 and not 15 by Sept. 1, 2006.
Coaches will randomly choose teams through a draft system.
Volunteer coaches and sponsors are needed. Background checks will be required for all volunteer coaches. Registration is being accepted until Aug. 18 and the games will begin Sept. 9 and the cost will be $60 per participant. For more information, call the parks & recreation department at 782-9828.
Possible fall baseball team
The Carson City Little League will be conducting a "Fall Ball" instructional baseball league during the months of September and October and several Carson Valley residents are trying to organize a Douglas County team to participate in the minors division.
The league will be kid-pitch for ages 9-10 and it costs $25 for a dozen games and a shirt and cap. All games will be played at Edmonds Park in South Carson City.
Ability isn't as important as enthusiasm as organizers are looking for children that love baseball and want to play a little more in the offseason.

CVMS girls' hoops tryouts
Any seventh- or eighth-grade girls who will be attending Carson Valley Middle School in 2006-07 are welcome to attend open gym basketball practices Aug. 22-24 from 3 to 5 p.m. in the school's main gym.
Tryouts will be Aug. 30 and 31 in the main gym from 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Players will need to have a completed physical and proof of medical insurance in order to try out. Athletic information packets should be picked up in the attendance office and must be completed prior to tryouts. Eighth-graders who played a CVMS sport last year do not need a new physical, but should still update the information in the athletic information packet.

Adult Volleyball Sign-ups
The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Department is currently taking registration for the Fall Adult Volleyball Leagues.
The registration deadline is Aug. 25. Registration is on a first come basis. Cost is $170.00 per team. Leagues being offered include: Women's league (Monday nights); Men's league (Tuesday nights); Coed "A" league (Tuesday nights); Coed "C" league (Wednesday nights); Coed "B" league (Thursday nights).

Douglas crab feed fundraiser
The Carson Valley Basketball Association, in conjunction with the and the Austin Kirby Foundation, will host an Alaskan King Crab Feed Sept. 6 at the St. Gall Catholic Church in Minden.
With the football team facing the prospect of moving its first few home games due to construction on the field, the association is hoping to make funds available to all the sports programs at the school. The all-sports boosters are facing an uphill battle this year as a good portion of their funds are raised through snack bar and program sales during home football games.
No-host cocktails and a silent auction begins at 5 p.m. and dinner begins at 6:30 p.m.
Some items for the silent auction include a trip to San Diego with air fare included, some antique items and some other major surprise items.
Tickets cost $50 for the all-you-can-eat event. Dinners will include baked potatoes, salad, bread and dessert.

Junior golf clinic
The Carson Valley Junior Golf program will conduct a six-week program that teaches the fundamentals of golf including etiquette, putting, chipping and full swing. Of course, participants will receive plenty of time on the golf course.
Juniors will attend the clinic at least once a week at the Carson Valley Golf Club.
Cost is $120 and includes clubs, instruction, snacks, golf goodies and a certificate of completion.

Carson Valley Golf Club will also conduct introduction to junior golf clinics Sept. 9. Into clinics cost $15.
A clinic for ages 5-6 is noon to 1:30 p.m., ages 7-9 is 2 to 3:30 p.m. and ages 10-14 is 4 to 5:30 p.m.
