On the weekend of July 22 and 23, the Douglas County 4-H Qualifier for the Nevada State Fair took place at Fuji Park. The Douglas County Funny Bunny, Wavy Cavy and Wicked Chicken Club started off very well on Friday with showmanship. In the poultry division, Rachel Murphy received first place and qualified for "master showmanship," an event where all the animals go against one another. In the rabbit division, Amelia Ritger was awarded first place novice showmanship with her tortoise Holland lop, Mickey, and also qualified for master showmanship. Great job to Shandi Anderson for getting third place in intermediate showmanship with her castor mini rex, Nemo. Congrats to Brooke Miller for doing very well in the cloverbud showmanship with her broken lilac mini rex, Mimi.
In the judging of the rabbit breeds, Amelia Ritger got first and best of breed with her Siamese sable lionhead, Chewy, and also third place in the hurdles with Mickey. Brooke Miller won best DQ (disqualified) with Mimi, awarded first place with her broken tort mini rex Jr., Rocky and second place with Mimi in the hurdles. Shandi Anderson won best of variety with her red mini rex, Tulip, and also with her tortoise mini rex, Coyote. Travis Anderson received best of variety with his chocolate mini rex Jr., Pudding, for his broken mini rex Sr., Quagmire, and also with his red-eyed white mini rex. Travis also got second place with his copper satin, Copper. Rachel Murphy won best reserve DQ with her black Dutch.
Awesome job to all you others who also participated in the county qualifier, and good luck at the Nevada State Fair. Be sure to join the Douglas County Funny Bunny, Wavy Cavy, and Wicked Chicken Club if you have any rabbits, guinea pigs, or chickens.
