Valley woman fights off virus' effects

The first serious case of West Nile Virus, reported in The Record-Courier on Aug. 4, was contracted by 34-year-old Megan Most of Gardnerville.

She is still fighting the disease and has intermittent fevers, said her friend, Lorie Lane.

Unable to move from the neck down, Most is now on a ventilator at Tahoe Pacific Hospital in Reno. She raises her eyebrows and can squeeze a hand. Nurses say she can move her toes, but beyond that there has been little response, Lane said.

"It's so frustrating, to think you could get something like this from a mosquito," said friend Tina Alaniz. "I try to see her every other day. When I'm not there, other friends are showing up. We don't want her to feel alone in Reno and we're here pulling for her, hoping she gets better."
