• Glider pilot Akihiro Hirao parachuted to safety after his glider lost one wing to a Reno-bound plane. The jet made an emergency landing at the Carson City airport without landing gear. No one was seriously hurt during the incident. Page A1

• The American Cancer Society Relay For Life event Saturday at Lampe Park exceeded organizers' hopes for fundraising. The event raised more than $84,000, which was up $30,000 from last year. Page B1

• The last outdoor concert of the summer at Minden Village features Michael Powers, as well as an art show and reception featuring the work of 10 artists. The free concert, organized by the producer of Comma Concerts, takes place outside 88 Cups, and the gallery is located inside. Page B2
