The Coleville High School football team dropped its season-opener at Round Mountain, 36-14.
Round Mountain only outgained the Wolves by 19 total yards but five turnovers and a number of mistakes proved extremely costly.
"Although I wasn't excited about our turnovers and many mistakes, I was pretty happy with our overall effort," Coleville coach Will Sandy said. "It looks like our offensive and defensive lines will be much better than last year. If we can eliminate the mental mistakes and minimize the turnovers, we should be more and more competitive as the season progresses.
"I am very encouraged by our team's work ethic and willingness to learn."
With only three returning starters from last year, Coleville enters 2006 with plenty of new faces on each side of the ball.
Freshman quarterback Jason Peters led the Wolves offensively with 115 passing yards and 186 rushing yards, including two touchdown runs.
Sophomore end Javier Pace was Coleville's top receiver with 60 yards.
Pace added 24 yards rushing.
Senior fullback Matt Carothers contributed 36 yards rushing and 35 yards receiving.
Senior end Mark Brown caught two passes for 20 yards and scored a two-point conversion.
Defensively, the Wolves were led by Carothers with seven solo tackes and 15 assists. Peters had two solo tackles and 10 assists. Pace (seveon solos, two assists), Sean Sherlock (three solos, four assists) and Will Goode (two solos and 12 assists) also made significant contributions on defense.
The offense put up a total of 361 yards.
Coleville next travels to Big Pine Friday for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
