Aside from a season-opening loss to defending regional champion Galena, things couldn't have gone much better for the Douglas High girls' soccer team over the weekend.
Tiger head coach Lorraine Fitzhugh spent most of Friday's opener against the Grizzlies mixing around her lineup to see what combinations of players worked best together.
Galena pushed ahead to a 3-0 victory, but Douglas gained some valuable early experience.
On Saturday, Douglas came back to defeat Damonte Ranch 3-1, powered by two goals from senior standout Morgan LeFever.
LeFever got assists from newcomers Marisa Bertolone-Smith and Kristina Dantin, and then Dantin punched in an unassisted goal of her own.
Tiger goalie Jamie Greer recorded four saves in the win, adding to her seven saves against the tough Galena offense.
Later in the day, Douglas picked up a 3-2 victory over 3A Incline, a squad that finished last season ranked just one spot below the Tigers in the Sierra Nevada Media Sports Poll.
Lisa Christen led off the scoring for the Tigers, getting an assist from Alicia Sturgess. Ally Freitas scored the second goal for Douglas, getting an assist from Dantin and Douglas also benefitted from an own goal by the Highlanders.
Douglas took on Spanish Springs Tuesday afternoon in Minden. The results of that game will be in Friday's R-C.
