Although the turnout was not quite as anticipated at Saturday's third annual Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club Truck Pull, it made up for it in power, according to organizers Ben Pridham and Ryan Albert.
The event, at the Douglas County Fairgrounds, featured exhibition tractors with V-12 Allison Aircraft engines and a helicopter turbine engine.
"We wanted full capacity, but I think we had a pretty good show," said event chair Albert. "There were quite a few in the novice class in all categories.
"There were three exhibition tractors, they put on an outstanding show. Next year we hope to keep on growing the show with new and exciting vehicles - trying to make sure we're better each year."
Central California-based MLM Motorsports provided the exhibition vehicles and organized that portion of the event.
"It went really well. I was really happy with it," said 20-30 club member Pridham. "It could have had a little more people, but we had a great time. The people had a great time.
"There were about five or six new tractors. It was quite exciting. It's not something that comes to Gardnerville all the time."
Pridham said he was happy with the "outstanding job" that MLM Motorsports did. He also praised the new sound system, which made it easier for them to hear what was going on during the show.
Albert said he appreciated members of the Auburn 20-30 club who came to help. He said they showed a good example for new members of the Carson Valley club. All club members had been heavily involved in the event, he said.
The Douglas County Farm Bureau sponsored a children's pedal tractor pull earlier in the afternoon.
"There were lots of kids," said Albert.
The Carson RV Superstore donated a new 2006 Cobalt tent trailer that the Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club is going to give away in a raffle during the 2007 Carson Valley Days. Two thousand tickets are available for $10 each. To purchase tickets, call Ryan Albert at 450-1890.
Sponsors of this year's truck pull were: Wilson Construction, the Carson RV Superstore, Sunshine Construction, Golden Nugget Automotive, G&M Trucking and Rhinobuilt.
