The Minden gazebo and tree lighting is the first of several events this weekend and kicks off the town's first Christmas festival. Whether it is the Parade of Lights on Saturday or the Christmas tree lighting in Genoa on Sunday, there's lots to do in this first weekend of December.

High temperatures will warm up into the upper 40s and stay there for the foreseeable future, according to the National Weather Service. Low temperatures are expected to remain around 20 degrees for the next six days. Today's high is expected to hit 47 today, warming up to 48 degrees. The temperature in Minden is 24 degrees. In Genoa it's 18 degrees.

The folks who decide how much of a surplus the state will have over the next two years reduced it by about a quarter. Nevada's Economic Forum chopped $82.4 million from the expected $320 million surplus, which of course had already been allocated. - Nevada Appeal
