Events offered at the senior center

n On Saturday, Young At Heart Senior Citizen Club will be hosting its annual Christmas party at the Douglas County Senior Center, 2300 Meadow Lane, Gardnerville. Doors open at 1 p.m. There will be entertainment and a social hour. Food will be served at 2 p.m. after which a gift exchange takes place. Bring a $5 wrapped Christmas gift for this event. Please mark the gift for male or female. Each year, the gift exchange is the highlight of the Christmas Party. This event is for senior citizens only. Children have many Christmas parties at both school, church and throughout the community. This one is reserved for the senior citizens only (55 years and older). n The annual Christmas shopping trip to Meadowood Mall in Reno will be Monday. Those interested in going must sign up at the Douglas County Senior Center office. Cost is $4 per person. The bus leaves the center at 8:30 a.m. and returns around 3:30 p.m. Lunch at the mall is not provided.




n Blood pressure checks will be available at the senior center Wednesday from 11:30 a.m. to noon. The Douglas County health nurse will be on hand to do the checks which will take place in the ceramic room or in the lobby on that day.




n Dementia Caregiver's Support Group will meet at Douglas County Senior Center 2 p.m., Thursday at the senior center. This is provided by the Gardnerville/Minden Caregiver's Support Group and has been proven very helpful for those whose loved ones are suffering from dementia. Everyone is welcome to attend. The meeting is free. Call the senior center for information.




n The most popular activity at the senior center is the monthly Young at Heart Bingo game, Dec. 17. Doors open at noon. Early bird games begin at 1 p.m. and regular games at 1:30 p.m. Must be 21 years or older to play. Progressive for December is $250 on 51 numbers...the pot increases by $50 each month and one number if not won. The game continues for black-out for one half of the pot. Free coffee and snacks. Hotdogs and chili are sold at the snack bar. More information call the senior center at 783-6455.
