Douglas in-line hockey struggles through opening weekend

The Douglas in-line hockey team, made up of students from Douglas High School and Douglas County middle schools, traveled to Elko over the weekend for its first games of the season.


Douglas took on Pocatello, Idaho, three times, losing 7-3, 8-2 and 7-3.


Ross Kelley had three goals in the three games, Clayton Ewart and Sean Page each had two and Jake Kangas had one.


Evans Sells had two assists and Scott Benson had one.


At the junior varsity level, Dougls lost to Elko 12-1 and to Pocatello 8-0 and 12-4.


Cory Porcello and Randy Dowell each had two goals and Kyle Dixon scored one.


Douglas plays again Dec. 16 at the Pony Express Pavilion in Mills Park in Carson City.


The varsity will play two games against Bishop at 10 a.m. and 1 p.m. and the junior varsity will play against Elko at 11 a.m. and face Reed at 4 p.m.


The teams in the league carry the names of their respective high schools, but are not affiliated with their schools.
