The Douglas County Animal Shelter has strays looking for new homes for the holidays.
Six-year-old border collie Radar was overweight, suffering from a thyroid problem and homeless, but he now has a new lease on life.
He now has a new home with a 9-year-old boy, thanks to the shelter staff and volunteers with the Douglas Animal Welfare Group.
Volunteers hope the holiday season will bring more success stories for animals at the shelter.
Dozens of dogs of varying breeds and ages await adoption. Most were abandoned, but some were turned in by their owners because they could no longer keep them.
Shelter employees and DAWG volunteers will be happy to help with the adoption process and suggest finding a dog that will best suit your lifestyle.
Adoption fees vary because they are determined by whether or not the dog is altered, has its shots, or if a license is required. Written permission from landlords is always required.
For more information, visit dcaco.co.douglas.nv.us/adoptablepets.htm.

Anyone interested in adopting a dog, should stop by the shelter at 921 Pinenut Road, across from the Douglas County Fairgrounds, or call 782-9061.
Shelter hours are weekdays 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. and weekends 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The shelter is closed on holidays.
Supplies are needed to make the holidays a bit more comfortable at the shelter. Donations of canned pet food, pet blankets and pet toys are appreciated.
