For the second time in a week, the Douglas boys' basketball team took on the Manogue Miners and for the second time, the Tigers came away with a double-digit win.
The Tigers overcame a sluggish first quarter and outscored the Miners 19-7 in the second to take control for good in a 65-52 win Friday night.
Manogue never came closer than 10 points for the rest of the game, although the Miners kept within striking distance thanks in part to a solid nine-point fourth quarter from Bobby Hunter and a 6-for-8 performance from the line in the fourth.
For its part, Douglas got 18 points from Keith Olson, 14 of which came in the fourth quarter alone, and 17 points from Mike Gransbery, including three 3-pointers.
On the other side of things, Manogue got a balanced scoring effort with 13 points from Keith Fuetsch, 12 from Dom Anxo and 10 from Josh Lepley.
Douglas ran its record to 5-0 on the year and will play for the championship of the Carson Valley Classic Saturday at 3 p.m. Friday night's 13-point win was actually the narrowest margin of victory so far this season for the Tigers.
The two teams battled to an 11-11 tie in the first quarter as Douglas just couldn't seem to cash in on a number of open shots.
That all changed in the second, however, as they went on an 11-2 run sparked by an athletic diving play by Nate Whalin to bat a loose ball to David Laird, who grabbed the ball off the floor on the run and dished it to James McLaughling for a nifty layup.
Both squads battled rather evenly in the second half, with Douglas taking a 36-32 scoring advantage in the half.
The Tigers got six points from Joe Nady, five from Jeff Nady and four points from Ryan McPeek, McLaughlin, Kevin Emm, and Laird.
