Organizers are inviting interested citizens in the community to join an elite list of prestigious area leaders by enrolling in Leadership Douglas County 2007.
Leadership Douglas County is a community leadership program designed to develop informed, involved and knowledgeable citizens in Douglas County. The program provides an opportunity for class members to lunch with lawmakers, take private tours of legislative and court facilities, meet decision makers in business, government and non-profit organizations and more. The relationships made with classmates and session presenters benefit individuals both personally and professionally. The program creates community leaders from all walks of life by focusing on the community's history, values, members, strengths, and issues. Leadership Douglas County is an opportunity to participate in the creation of a vision for the future. Applications are due by Jan. 5.
Leadership Douglas County requires candidates to commit just one day of class time per month. The 11-month program includes in-depth and hands-on looks at state government, public safety/judicial system, education, county government, town boards, GIDs, Lake Tahoe tourism, Carson Valley tourism, recreation, heritage, economic development, media, social services, health care and environment. Each class includes speakers, on-site tours and lunch. The first session begins Jan. 16.
The registration fee, including class materials, special activities, transportation and meals, is $750 for chamber members and $850 for non-members. Payment plans are available. Students are also encouraged to seek sponsorships.
