County commissioners delayed a decision on a $24.7 million redevelopment deal to give people more time to look at it. Commissioners will hold a new hearing Dec. 21 in Minden after their regular meeting in Stateline. Under the proposal, the property developer on the site located across Highway 395 from Wal-Mart would receive the money to build 30,000 square feet of commercial space. County officials hope the work needed to bring the initial project to completion will spark the rest of the center.

There was debate on a plan to open the Minden-Tahoe Airport to larger aircraft on Thursday, but no action by county commissioners. The county wants to try allowing heavier aircraft to land with permission, so it can be determined how much demand and how heavy the aircraft that would be landing actually are. There will be at least two more meetings before the county takes action.

Original East Fork Swimming Pool District trustees Len Ludel and Garry DenHeyer will be at the Carson Valley Swim Center at noon Saturday to celebrate retirement of the bond. Garry points out that when Len was cutting diamonds in the little white brick building in Gardnerville, it and Antwerp were the only two places in the world where that work was being done.

The National Weather Service is warning motorists to expect winter driving conditions in the upper elevations. That means higher than Lake Tahoe, where only light snow is expected. A second, colder, storm is expected to arrive Saturday night and continue into Monday morning. That one may bring several inches of snow down to Lake level. There is a possibility snow down in the Valleys. At sunrise, it's 17 degrees in Minden and the winds are calm.
