It isn't too late to sponsor a Douglas County child for Christmas by picking an angel off of one of the Angel Trees in town.
Angels will only be available until Sunday and gifts must be returned to the location where the angel was picked by Monday. These gifts will be distributed to the families before Christmas by a team of dedicated volunteers.
Angel Trees are located in Minden at Taylor-York Salon, 1625 Highway 395 and in Gardnerville at Wells Fargo Bank, 1542 Highway 395; Raley's Supermarket, 1363 Highway 395; R & T Cleaners, 1389 Lampe Drive; Scolari's Supermarket, 1335 Highway 395, Carson Valley Medical Center, 1107 Highway 395 and Topaz Lodge, 1979 Highway 395.
Angel Trees are part of Project Santa Claus, now in its 18th year of lending a hand to Douglas County children in need.
The umbrella of Project Santa Claus includes children of Carson Valley Community Food Closet families who are approved by Douglas County and Washoe Tribal Social Service Departments, children of Family Support Council families who are approved by their caseworkers, children in the Court Appointed Special Advocates program of Douglas County approved by their caseworkers and with assistance from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office.
