If how many new nose prints that appear overnight is any indication of how good business is going to be, Nono's Home Decor in the Clear Creek Plaza could be off to a good start.
Nanette Toland opened her home decor store in the same shopping center as Trader Joe's on the same weekend and noticed new prints on the windows every morning.
Nono's has home decor but also items for gift-giving. There is furniture from Peru and India, mirrors, lamps, art, picture frames, ironwork from India, candles, wall plaques, featured pieces from Vietnam and China.
Toland said she hopes to appeal to designers who won't have to go to Reno to get materials and home stagers who want to help people sell their homes by feeding in a few new items.
"I prepare an eclectic mix of things - a mix rather than a match," said Toland. "If everything matches, it looks like its not yours. More of a 'transitional' look so it doesn't look like one decorator's style.
Toland has a range of items with a range of prices. Accent furniture pieces to gift items are priced from $5.99 to $2,000.
"I try to keep the price point really fair so if the style changes, you don't want to throw everything out," she said. "And I also have prices that if you don't like it, you don't feel bad about getting rid of it."
Items are arriving every day and Toland is still working on perfecting the store's look, although she said she likes the warehouse feel. Ace the cat is Nono's mascot.
"This is not a real 'she-she' kind of store," she said. "People like to touch and move things."
In the future, Nono's will have designers teach classes on how to do a holiday tablescape, feng shui and other designer tricks.
"To show you how to make things to scale, proportional," said Toland. "And to make things fit so they just feel right."
Nono's Home Decor is at Topsy Lane and Highway 395 in the Clear Creek Plaza, four doors down from Trader Joe's. Hours of operation are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. Info, 267-1911.
