The Douglas High School girls' basketball team had the Galena Grizzlies right where it wanted them Tuesday night.

The Tigers had an 8-2 run through the middle of the game, book-ending either side of halftime, to close to within two points for the Grizzlies. But a flurry of turnovers, combined with some tough luck shooting and a distinct height advantage for Galena, led to Douglas' demise as the Grizzlies pulled away with a 41-29 win in Reno.

Galena went on a 5-2 run to begin to pull away midway through the third and then essentially put the game with a 6-0 run in the last minute of the quarter.

The Grizzlies opened the fourth with a 9-2 run before Douglas was able to claw back within 12 in the last few minutes of the game.

Jessica Waggoner led the Tigers with nine points and Sarah Hartley had six.

Allie Hughes scored five, Kaela Horse had three and Taryn Williams, Bridget Maestretti and Katie Buffo each contributed two points.

Douglas was fairly solid on defense, allowing only six points in the second quarter, as the Tigers frustrated the Grizzlies' tall post players with good pressure inside. Galena struggled to find any sort of rhythm from a halfcourt set throughout the game, but had success in their transition game, scoring a large majority of their points on breakaways.

On the other side, Douglas struggled to solve Galena's full-court press, but did have some success using its half-court offense to rotate the extra pass to the open player inside.

Douglas (3-5 overall) will get some rest this weekend before returning to action in its home-opener Monday against Whittell at 7 p.m.
