A weekend of music and visiting Santa

Saturday: The Carson Valley Pops Orchestra, with music director and conductor Danny Yale, will present a free concert, "A Musical Christmas," 2 p.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church pastoral center in Gardnerville. Light refreshments will be available for purchase. A raffle will take place for items such as: jewelry, an electronic keyboard, wine, a framed watercolor painting and framed photographs. Saturday: Christmas in the Sierra returns to the historic "Raycraft" Town Hall in Genoa with two performances on Saturday at 5 p.m. and again at 8 p.m. Christmas in the Sierra is a musical written by David John and performed in the western tradition by David John and the Comstock Cowboys. Tickets are $15 and available at the town office 782-8696, Tahoe Ridge Winery 783-1566 and Wild Rose Inn 782-5697 in Genoa. Seating is limited. Hot food will be available in the "Cowboy Cafeteria" adjacent to town hall and a no-host bar will be provided by Tahoe Ridge Winery. This is a benefit for the Genoa Events Committee which sponsors the free outdoor summer concerts in Genoa.




Saturday: Children may give Santa their requests and receive candy canes at 632 Bluerock Road in the Gardnerville Ranchos from 6-8 p.m. on Dec. 16. For information, call Greg Cazier, 265-2034.




Sunday: The fifth annual "Joyful Noise" community holiday concert will be 7 p.m. Dec. 17 at the CVIC Hall, 1694 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. This is an event for families, with music, holiday treats and hot cider. Cherie and John Shipley will perform with special guest Bob Moscal on saxophone and the Unity Church of Today chorus. Live music includes traditional carols, pop holiday tunes and children's songs. There is no charge, but donations are accepted.
