The Douglas High School Speech and Debate Team will be hosting the annual Sage Brush League Tournament on Jan. 5-6.

More than 200 students from 18 high schools in Northern Nevada will compete in both speaking and debating events over the two days. The team is reliant upon the time and energy of volunteers to make the event a success.

The judging schedule for two days of events has been divided into blocks of time.

The team will provide snacks and beverages, as well as lunch and dinner, for judges.

Judging clinics will be held 6:30-7:30 p.m. Jan. 3 and 5:30- 6:30 p.m. Jan. 4 in the DHS Media Center.

Attendance at the clinic is not required to judge, but many have found it a helpful orientation to the activity.

There will be high school students or adults who will be able to watch children during the tournament so indicate the need for baby-sitting services.

Individual speaking events are Jan. 5 and 6.

Debate events Jan. 6:

8 a.m. until noon and/or noon to 4 p.m. and/or 4 - 8:30 p.m.

The public is invited to an awards ceremony for individual events planned for 5 p.m. on Jan 6.
