A lot of people don't know the Taildragger Café is there practically on the runway of the Minden Tahoe airport but they have a following of people who treat the place like home.

"It's a unique little place and we all love it," said owner Meg Getty. "The restaurant sits right on the airport - step outside and you're on the tarmac."

Manager Renee McElvain, former owner of Nelson's Restaurant, said they just started serving dinner at the café.

"We have café food like burgers, Reuben sandwiches, crispy chicken salads, caesar and chef's salads and we run specials each night. We have homemade Mexican food every Wednesday."

Taildragger supports school and sports groups and hosts special events like benefits and memorials, slot tournaments, karaoke and live music nights, as well as outdoor barbecues in the summer on the covered patio.

Taildragger does to-go meals, including those for large groups. They offer a "Frequent Flyer" program where after the purchase of 10 meals, the 11th meal is free.

"In addition to great food, I have absolutely awesome employees who make an effort to get to know all of our customers," said Getty. "We all consider the restaurant to be an extension of our own homes and treat our customers accordingly."

Taildragger Café is at 1150 Airport Road near the Minden airport. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner and are open starting at 6 a.m., seven days a week. The bar stays open as long as the customers want. For more information, call 782-9500.
