The Christmas season is upon us and soon we will be celebrating the birth of the Lord Jesus Christ. This is truly a unique time of year and a time filled with celebration, tradition, symbolism and reflection. The birth of Jesus the Savior is one of the greatest events in all of human history and it is a good thing to celebrate it.
Isa. 9:6 - "For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder. And His name will be called, Wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end."
We are told that King Herod was aware that a king was to be born in Bethlehem and he would rule the nation. Herod wanted to find this king and destroy him. What was Herod afraid of? He was afraid of losing his rule. He was afraid that another king would rise up and he would lose his kingdom.
Do we have the same fear? Are we afraid that we will lose our rule? Are we afraid to release control of our lives and follow this King?
This message can fit every person to some degree. All of us struggle somewhat in this area. Do we have areas in our lives that we are reluctant to release into the rule and authority of Jesus our King? Who really reigns your life? Who is really in charge? Who really sits on the throne? Who really wears the crown? When it comes to decisions in our lives who makes the call?
Do we have our own kingdom or are we loyal servants in His kingdom?
The Bible tells us that the same Jesus who was born in a stable, was crucified and rose from the dead, will return again some day. He will not return as a baby. He is all grown up and when He returns He will return as the King of Kings. What a glorious day that will be for those who await His return. I will finish with a picture of who He now is and what his return will look like.
Rev. 19:11 - "And I saw heaven opened, and behold a white horse; and he that sat upon him was called Faithful and True, and in righteousness he doth judge and make war. His eye were as a flame of fire, and on his head were many crowns; and he had a name written, that no man knew, but he himself. And he was clothed with a vesture dipped in blood: and his name is called The Word of God. And the armies which were in heaven followed him upon white horses, clothed in fine linen, white and clean. And out of his mouth goeth a sharp sword, that with it he should smite the nations: and he shall rule them with a rod of iron: and he treadeth the winepress of the fierceness and wrath of Almighty God. And he hath on his vesture and on his thigh a name written, King of Kings, and Lord of Lords."
Let us remember that Christmas celebrates the birth of the King. Is Jesus king of your life?
