Snow advisory in effect for Carson Valley

A snow advisory was issued by the National Weather Service at 3:41 p.m. today saying that a band of moderate snow will form across Western Nevada. Cold temperatures will make light snow that will accumulate quickly. The heaviest snow will occur this evening and overnight. The snow advisory expires at 8 a.m. Sunday. The weather Service is expecting 2-4 inches of snow to fall in foothill locations.

Accidents at Highway 395 and Cradlebaugh Bridge and 50 and Elks Point Road are slowing down traffic in Douglas County. Highway 395 through Washoe Valley has at least two accidents in the northbound lanes, with one vehicle on its side in the median and another hitting the bridge abutment. Chains or snow tires are officially required on Highway 395 south of Stephanie Way, on Kingsbury and on Highway 50.

Light snow is falling in Carson Valley with a dusting sticking to the ground. The temperature in Genoa is 24 degrees.
