Alicia Smalley, who served on the Douglas County School Board from 1985-1995, died of cancer Saturday at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center. She was 54.
Smalley, who lived in Indian Hills, was diagnosed with lymphoma five years ago.
"She'd gone through all the treatments and protocol suggested by her doctor, but it was to no avail," said Esther Cothrun, her younger sister.
"She wanted to do everything she could to win in this struggle for her life, but she didn't seem to be able to shake it off."
A memorial service is set for 11 a.m. Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Carson City.
Donations in Smalley's name may be made to the scholarship fund at the Partnership of Community Resources, PO 651, Minden, NV 89423.
