A 25-year-old South Lake Tahoe man was jailed Dec. 17 on $25,000 bail after he reportedly walked out of a convenience store without paying for a cup of coffee.

Deputies charged Leroy Carl Smith with burglary because he had $3 and a debit card, but entered the store with the intent to take the coffee without paying, according to reports.

While outside, Smith reportedly dropped the coffee and went back in for another cup.

Deputies were called to the Tillman 7-Eleven in the Gardnerville Ranchos at 8:40 a.m. after Smith, who appeared intoxicated, left the store without paying.

When deputies arrived, they said Smith smelled of alcohol and was staggering, shouting and singing.
