Due to a mix-up at The Record-Courier's printing plant in Carson City, the Lahontan Daily News' sports section front appears on page 7 of the newspaper. Those things we put on page 7, including obituaries and births will appear in Friday's edition. A memorial service for Paul A. Juergens Jr. is 1 p.m. Thursday in Zephyr Cove. Other services are either mentioned elsewhere in the newspaper or will be after Friday.
In a break with tradition, Douglas County's political officers will be sworn in on Friday. Clerk-Treasurer Barbara Griffin said the Nevada Attorney General issued a memo that the swearing in could occur before the new year. Traditionally, county officers are sworn in on the first Monday of the new year. This year that would have been Jan. 1.
Griffin said that according to the attorney general, sworn in or not, the electees will not take office until the first of the year. Several of the officers to be sworn in include Griffin, Sheriff Ron Pierini, new District Attorney Mark Jackson, Assessor Doug Sonneman, Recorder Werner Christian, East Fork Justice of the Peace Jim EnEarl, East Fork Constable Paul Gilbert and pretty much anyone else elected this year.
Why does 10 degrees feel so much warmer than zero. I don't know but it does.
Clouds will be rolling in today and with them slightly warmer temperatures. The high today will shoot up to 36 and then drop to 22 in the morning. The National Weather Service is betting there will be precipitation sometime Thursday, probably late in the form of rain, then snow showers and then snow. The winds will pick up, hitting gusts of up to 37 mph.
