The following are classes offered by the Douglas County Parks & Recreation. To register, call 782-9828.


n Senior ballroom dancing, Jan. 12 through Feb. 2, Fridays, 7-8 p.m., adults, Dance Workshop, $75 a couple. This is a chance to learn new dance skills or just tune up existing skills.


n Shotokan karate, Jan. 2-30, Tuesdays and Thursdays, 6:30-8 p.m., 12 and older, Pau-Wa-Lu, $40. This is a traditional Japanese karate style that employs efficient and powerful techniques that emphasize coordination of mind and body rather than physical strength.


n Spanish, Jan. 8-29, Mondays, 3:30-4:30 p.m., Meneley Elementary School, $30. This class is for students who wish to continue learning Spanish based on the Douglas County Elementary Spanish Curriculum.


n Spanish, Jan. 11-25, Thursdays, 3:15-4:15 p.m., grades 1-6, Gardnerville Elementary School, $30. This class is for students who wish to continue learning Spanish based on the Douglas County Elementary Spanish Curriculum.


n Spanish, Jan. 9-30, Tuesdays, 3:15-4:15 p.m., grades 1-6, Minden Elementary School, $40.This class is for students who wish to continue learning Spanish based on the Douglas County Elementary Spanish Curriculum.


n Tiny Tumblers, Jan. 10 through Feb. 2, Mondays and Fridays, 9-9:45 a.m., 6 months-2 years, Tumbleweeds Gymnastics, $55. This parent participation class promotes independent learning in sport, self-esteem, and first friendships.


n Tumble Tots, Jan. 8-31, Mondays and Wednesdays, 3-3:45 p.m., ages 3-6, Tumbleweeds Gymnastics, $55. Tumbling - trampoline - bars - rings. This class builds confidence, courage, strength, flexibility and self esteem.


n Tumble Twisters, Jan. 9-30, Tuesdays, 3:45-4:45 p.m., ages 6-12, Tumbleweeds Gymnastics, $55. Tumbling - trampoline - bars - rings. This class builds confidence, courage, strength, flexibility and self esteem.


n Yoga, Jan. 1-29, Mondays and Thursdays, 9:30-11 a.m., 7-8:30 p.m., adults, recreation annex, $30. The ancient life science of Hatha Toga (physical yoga) is the path to long life and happiness.


Upcoming special events/classes:


n Battle of the Bands, March 24, Saturday, 4-10 p.m., 12-20 participating bands, Douglas County Fairgrounds, $5.


n Chinese New Year celebration, Feb. 24, Saturday, 1-3:30 p.m., Minden Elementary School.


n Father/daughter dance, Feb. 10, Saturday, 6:30-9 p.m., St. Gall Catholic Church, $15 couple, $6 each additional daughter.


n Little Miss Douglas County Pageant, Feb. 10, Feb. 16, Feb. 17, Fridays and Saturdays varies, March 18, Dance Workshop, $45 plus $10 pageant admission fee.


n Teen dance, Jan. 19, Friday, 7-9:30 p.m., grades 6-8, Douglas County Fairgrounds, $5.
