There's snow on the ground in parts of the Valley and snow showers are supposed to be the rule for today, according to the National Weather Service as the high temperature climbs to 40 degrees. The winds that bedeviled Carson Valley on Tuesday should die down to a dull roar, with gusts of up to 36 mph.
According to the radar, there is still another burst of moisture headed this way.
Before sunrise today, the temperature is 35 degrees in Genoa and in Minden.
The road control map is showing chains or snow tires required on Highway 395 from Muller Lane to three miles south of Riverview. Travel on 395 will be an adventure for high profile vehicles which are not advised from 2.2 miles north of Holbrook Junction to the California state line, where they're prohibited. Chains are mandatory on the west side of Lake Tahoe.
The answer to the question, "When's fire season over?" is apparently never, if the day after Christmas was any indication. We had two brush fires in the Valley that quick reaction kept from blowing up into anything spectacular. The Woodfords fire did a little damage, but was out pretty fast. However, a big fire near the Pyramid Highway in Reno grew very quickly.
