The Douglas-Carson rivalry will enter the fields of food service and law enforcement on Wednesday when Douglas County's finest will go head to head against Carson peace officers to raise money for Nevada Special Olympics.
More than 200 law enforcement officers will be participating with Chili's, Applebee's and other restaurants across Nevada to raise funds for in the annual "Tip-a-Cop" fundraiser for the Special Olympics.
Officers will be working side by side with restaurant employees, serving food and refreshments, busing and setting tables. The officers will be on hand to talk to patrons about Nevada Special Olympics and the importance of supporting such a worthwhile program. Patrons wishing to help will be asked to leave a special tip designated for the Nevada Special Olympics in addition to any tip left for the restaurant server.
"We have no desire to have a monetary impact upon the restaurant employees," Sgt. Tom Mezzetta said.
The Douglas County Sheriff's Office is seeking the help of the community to raise more funds for Nevada Special Olympics than any other law enforcement agency in Nevada, according to Mezzetta.
"Please join us in our support of Nevada Special Olympics on Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. and 4:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Chili's Grill and Bar located at 3784 U.S. Highway 395 in northern Douglas County."
