The last hopes of a playoff spot slipped out of the Douglas boys' basketball team's fingers Tuesday night as the Tigers second-half rally sputtered in a 79-61 loss at Reno.
North Valley's 92-65 win over South Tahoe on the other side of town finished it, giving the Panthers their first playoff berth in the school's five-year history.
J.J. Mulligan scored 27 points to lead Reno and the Huskies hit eight 3-pointers to put away the Tigers.
Douglas came back with an impressive 24-11 third quarter, highlighted by a 10-0 run through the middle, but Reno got back on its feet and pulled away.
Keith Olson led the Tigers with 17 points and Mike Gransbery added 15 for Douglas, which dropped to 10-16 overall and 5-8 in league play.
