The Nevada Supreme Court upheld the Sustainable Growth Initiative on Thursday.

In a preliminary opinion by a majority of the court, justices ruled the initiative did not conflict with the Douglas County Master Plan and reversed a ruling by Douglas County District Judge Mike Gibbons.

"We agree with the Sustainable Growth Initiative Committee and hold that SGI is in substantial compliance with the master plan and should not be defeated on summary judgment," the majority opinion said. "We agree with the SGIC and hold that the SGI is not so inconsistent as to require us to strike down the will of the poeple by holding it invalid. Thus, we reverse the decision of the district court."
