CVMS sweeps tournament

The seventh- and eighth-grade volleyball teams at Carson Valley Middle School swept the South Tahoe Optimist Tournament recently.


The seventh-graders beat Fallon 25-12, 25-15 with strong service games from Carson McFadden and Courtney Appleton and topped South Tahoe 25-14, 25-17 with tough service games from Chaiymin Steel and Maddy Gilbert. Carson Valley beat Eagle Valley 25-12, 25-19 while getting great setting from Bryn Strong and Jacquie Harper and solid serving from Mia Townsell and Shannon Sturgess.


In bracket play, Carson Valley topped Kingsbury 25-20, 25-15 with some big serves from Brianne Burnside and strong setting from Danielle Lorntzen.


Carson Valley beat Herbert Green 27-25, 25-20 getting some good defensive play from Emily Garcia and Alex Laing.


The Tigers topped Eagle Valley in the championship match 22-25, 25-21, 15-12. Brenna White played well on defense and Emily Keele had a solid all-around game. Whitney Louie's serves and defense pulled the team through the second game.


In the eighth-grade tournament, Carson Valley swept North Tahoe in two games and lost to Fallon in three games. They beat Kingsbury and took Forest Hills to three games before winning. Mysta Townsell served 18 points in one of the games.


In the Carson match, the Tigers lost match one 16-25. In the second game, CVMS put its skills into gear to win 25-16 and coasted to a 15-12 win in game three.


Carson Valley managed to get past Eagle Valley in the championship, winning in two games with solid play from all of the Tigers' 14 players.


Carson Valley players include Rebecca Antti, Kaitlin Babbit, CJ Baumgartner, Jourdan Burke, Taylor Carney, Christine Dupuis, Linsey Glass, Jamie Lorntzen, Kim Lowe, Mollie Matheson, Katrina Morgan, Scharae Steel, Mysta Townsell, Rebecca Trute. The teams are managed by Dani Laing, Keely Latham and Kendra Blum. Suzi Townsell coaches the seventh-graders and Janae Ballingham coaches the eighth-graders.
