The people's choice winners in the "Between Fences" photo contest were announced last week. Tied for the honor are two Carson Valley residents, John O'Neill of Minden and Wendell Jenness of Gardnerville.

Both O'Neill and Jenness are award-winning photographers, who have entered their work in competitions in the past.

O'Neill owns the Carson Valley Violin School and the Carson Valley Violin Shop located on Johnson Lane in Minden.

His entry titled "Pogonip" was taken near Jacks Valley Road in January 2005.

Jenness has worked with photography since he was 12 years old. He used the closet under the stairwell in his home to develop his own black-and-white photos.

His winning entry, "Ghost Fence" was taken in February along Centerville Road in Carson Valley. Jenness pointed out that pogonip is the Native American word for ghost. He is a retired chemist for Kaiser and now spends his time traveling and enjoying his passion, photography.
