Nominations accepted for Women in History project

The seventh annual Women's History Remembering Project of the Douglas County Historical Society will take place on March 12. The theme this year is "Douglas County Women: Footsteps in History."

This event is an opportunity to nominate a woman whom has made a significant historical contribution to the quality of life in Douglas County.

An example of a past "Woman in History" is Anna Dressler, who was honored in 2002.

Dressler was the first president and one of the founders of the historical society in 1961, then called the Carson Valley Historical Society.

The woman nominated, living or deceased, must live or have lived in Douglas County.

Six women, chosen from the nominees at the discretion of the society's committee, will be honored at a reception on March 12. Their histories will be archived in the VanSickle Research Library at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville, as well as with the Nevada Women's History Project in Reno.

This project aids in the preservation of Douglas County history, according to historical society officials.

Nominating packets are now available and may be picked up at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Packets will be mailed upon request by calling 782-2555. The deadline for submissions is 4 p.m., Feb. 11.
