The Douglas boys' basketball team utilized an overwhelming pace in the second half to race past the North Valleys Panthers 77-56 at Douglas Tuesday night.
North Valleys, known most for its out-of-this-world 3-point shooting and blazing game tempo, fired off six 3-pointers in the first half and appeared ready to pull away with the game, leading 37-26 with a little more than two minutes left in the first half.
Douglas, however, clamped down on defense and settled into a dominating transition game, scoring 26 of the game's next 28 points to claim the win.
Jeff Nady led the Tigers with 18 points, Jordan Hadlock had 17 and Keith Olson scored 12.
Mike Gransbery added 11 points and was instrumental in pushing the tempo up for the Tigers.
North Valleys got 26 points from Brian Coursey and 17 points from Archie Kovich in the game.
In total, the Tigers outscored North Valleys 40-19 in the second half to claim the win.
Douglas improved to 7-8 overall and 2-0 in Sierra League play. The Tigers host Reno Friday at 7 p.m.
GIRLS
North Valleys got 15 points from standout post player Anita Burdick as the Panthers picked up a 47-40 win.
Monica Knight and Bridget Maestretti each scored 12 points to lead the Tigers in the loss.
Autumn Burtt added seven for Douglas (4-12, 0-2).
