Adam J. Fritz

1922-2006

A memorial Mass is 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Gall Catholic Church for Adam J. Fritz, a Gardnerville resident for 19 years. He died Jan. 6, 2006, at his home. The rosary will be said 7 p.m. today at St. Gall.

Mr. Fritz was born May 24, 1922, on a farm near Johnstown, Pa. He moved to Cleveland, Ohio, at age 18. After serving three years during World War II in Europe with the U.S. Army, he returned home to marry Lee Nawrocki.

Mr. Fritz started his career as a welder and later became a millwright in the can manufacturing industry. After moving to Napa, Calif., to be near his family, he spent a decade working as a millwright for Charles Krug Winery.

Mr. Fritz and his wife have lived in Gardnerville and been members of St. Gall Catholic Church since 1987. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. He loved his home and family and was a lifelong gardener.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years; son Dave; and grandchildren Elana and Jesse.

A reception will immediately follow Saturday's memorial service in the pastoral center. Arrangements are in care of FitzHenry's Carson Valley Funeral Home in Gardnerville.

John Allan Ziemer

1940-2006

John Allan Ziemer, 65, died Jan.1, 2006 near his home at Bodie Flats in Gardnerville.

Born June 22, 1940, to Elihu John Ziemer and Anna Lucille Hightowner Ziemer, in his grandparents' home in Miliken, Colo., he spent the first 10 years of his life in Colorado.

He moved to Santa Clara County, Calif., in 1950 with his mother and older brother. Mountain View, Calif., was his home through grade and high school.

Mr. Ziemer joined the U.S. Navy in 1957 and served as a naval photographer until 1961. He served on the USS Hancock aircraft carrier and at the North Island Naval Air Station in San Diego. He was honorably discharged as a photographer 3rd class.

Mr. Ziemer loved the outdoors, motorcycles, photography, fishing and gambling. He moved to Nevada from San Jose in 1981 and worked as a custodian for Douglas County and the Carson Valley Inn for many years. He worked part-time as a freelance photographer in his earlier years.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother in 1959 and his infant brother, Richard Dean Ziemer in 1945.

He is survived by his brothers Marvin and wife Karen of Minden, David and wife Marilyn of Greeley, Colo., Robert and wife Diane of Lincoln, Neb.; nephews Rick, Dennis, Randy and Mitchel Ziemer; aunt Ruth Rosencrans of Oregon; uncle Eugene Ziemer of Colorado and numerous other nephews, cousins and friends.

Arrangements are in the care of Truckee Meadows Cremation & Burial. Memorial service to be announced at a later date.
