It's All About Quilting in The Pink House is seven rooms of fabric, quilting materials, patterns, notions and computer programs. Dennis Nau owns the new quilting shop and his wife Kathy and daughters Pie and Vicky run it. He has a landscaping and lawn maintenance business but said he can quilt too.
"We looked at buying a store four years ago but nothing fit the bill," said Dennis Nau. "We wanted someplace special. When The Pink House became available in April, we jumped on it."
"Besides quilts, you can make wearable items, gifts, simple to expert projects," said Kathy Nau. "In the summer, people sit on the porch and sew and spend their day."
It's All About Quilting offers quilting design software such as the "Kaleidoscope" program that allows the quilter to put photos on fabric.
"We have top quality quilting fabrics like Moda, Hoffman Batiks, RJR, blank fabrics, P&B fabric and a large selection of Minki Paris textiles," Dennis Nau said. "We try not to carry the same fabrics as other quilt stores in the area because quilters are unique and go to every shop to find materials.
"We also have homeowner-friendly quilt frames by Ultra Quilter that can fold up and be stored under a bed and can also be used with sewing machines," he said.
As the featured product of the month, special pricing and daily demonstrations are available for the Ultra Quilter.
"Prices are due to increase on the product, but we'll hold at the old price this month," said Nau.
Nau said beginning to advanced quilting classes start in February.
"We're going to work up a class schedule and input is welcomed," he said.
"What we'd like to do with the shop is to get involved in home economics classes at the schools," said Nau. "We'd like to bring quilting to schools. We want to get a new generation of quilters involved."
As an opening special, Christmas and bargain basket fabrics are 50 percent off. Other selected fabrics are 30 percent off. The Naus offer computer design program demos every Wednesday and a free two-hour class is included with any program purchase.
"The newest and latest gadgets in the quilting industry are featured," Nau said.
It's All About Quilting is in The Pink House at 193 Genoa Lane, Genoa. Hours of operation are 9 a.m.- 5 p.m. Monday through Friday, except Wednesday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Starting in April, It's All About Quilting will be open Sundays from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
