Snowshoe Thompson event reservations needed by Feb. 28

The 150th anniversary of the Snowshoe Thompson initial mail run from Placerville, Calif., to Genoa will be celebrated with the seventh annual Snowshoe Thompson Cross Country Ski/Snowshoe Tour and the fifth annual dedication of the Snowshoe Thompson Monument in Genoa.


On March 11, participants in the Cross Country Ski/Snowshoe Tour will meet at 9 a.m. at Hope Valley Outdoor Center for a 5K ski tour or a 2 1/2 K snowshoe. There will be a longboard demonstration. A light lunch will be served. The cost is $10. For information, call (530) 694-2266.


Frank Tortorich is the historical guide and Nina MacLeod is the skiing guide.


A celebration will take place 4-8 p.m. in Genoa Town Hall, including a smorgasbord and entertainment. The cost is $15. Call 782-5697 for reservations and information by Feb. 28.


Funds raised are used for the maintenance of the statue to continue the legend of Snowshoe Thompson.
