Staff Reports

The Alpine County Resource Advisory Committee will meet 6 p.m. Feb. 9 at the Diamond Valley School near Woodfords.

The committee will be discussing issues relevant to natural resources in Alpine County. The meeting is open to the public.

The Alpine County RAC is a committee of volunteers who were selected by the Secretary of Agriculture to advise the Forest Service on the use of moneys allocated to the County through the Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-determination Act of 2000.

The Congressionally mandated committee consists of 15 county residents representing a broad section of the community including, outdoor recreation, environmental, mineral, education, cattle, elected officials, native American and other interests.

The Alpine County RAC is charged to decide how to spend the approximately $120,000 per year allocated to Alpine County. The funds must be used to benefit the National Forests System lands in Alpine County and can be used for projects on adjacent private or other agency land provided the work helps the ecosystem or watershed of the forest.

For more information regarding the Alpine County RAC or how to submit projects to the RAC, contact Frank Pemberton, Public Affairs Officer for the Carson Ranger District, Carson City at 882-2766.
