The Nelson's Take Five crew is moving to the Backroads site on Airport Road and hopes to open a new restaurant/bar as soon as mid-August.
Gail Davis who has been Nelson's manager for 2 1/2 years, said they hoped to walk out of one building and into another but some cleaning and painting has to happen first.
They hope to start lunches in August or September, depending on when the liquor license comes through.
"Opportunity knocked," said Davis. "The Johnson Lane location will be better."
Davis said lunch and dinners will be served in the new space.
"We'll have burgers and salads at lunch and more family-style dinners - a cross between Olive Garden and a Basque restaurant," she said.
There are plans for a separate pool room, an area for private parties, dart games, a few TVs and patio area.
"There's a nice patio and we'll put some furniture out there," Davis said. "It will be like a 'family bar,' - not with TVs all over like a sports bar."
Davis said Backroads will continue to have the music that Nelson's was known for.
"People really loved coming in for the music," she said about groups like the Heat Seekers and entertainment from Catherine Cook and the Tahoe Jazz Trio, Mark Wilson and members of Playa Papaya.
Backroads' grand-opening event date is yet to be announced.
