Digest: Tiger hoops camp coming in late June

The 2006 Boys & Girls Tiger High Intensity Basketball Camp is scheduled for June 26-29 for athletes in first- through seventh-grades.


Coaches this year include Douglas high head coaches Rob Streeter and Werner Christen, Andy Hughes, Aubrey McCreary of the Double-Pump West Coast All-Star Camp, Douglas' Randy Green, Joe Bertelone and Phil Emm, Chico's Bill Gibson and Bill Ballinger of the Reno Ballers.


All camp sessions will be at Douglas High School, running from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Wednesday and 9 a.m.-noon on Thursday.


A snack bar will be available for drinks, food, snacks and shirts.


Cost is $110 for those registered before June 12 and $120 for late or walk-up registration.


A camp T-shirt will be provided.

Fall sports clearance night


A clearance night for all fall sports at Douglas High School has been scheduled for June 5 from 4 to 7 p.m. in the Douglas High School commons.


The mandatory extra-curricular drug policy presentation is at 7:15 p.m. The athlete, along with at least one of their parent/legal guardians must attend the presentation.


Athletes, parents and legal guardians not at the presentation will not be able to try out for fall sports.


If the athlete and the parent or legal guardian has already attended the presentation, they do not have to attend it again.


Free physicals will be available from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. on campus during clearance night. Completed paperwork is required for the physical. A representative will be on hand to sell ASB stickers. The price of stickers for next year's ninth graders is $20. Sophomores through seniors will be charged $25.


Athletes are required to undergo physicals every two years (freshman and junior year or first and third year of participation with an athletic team).


The clearance night has been scheduled to accommodate those athletes planning to play a sport in the fall of 2006, however any students planning on participating in a sport during the 2006-07 school year are encouraged to attend.


All paperwork must be filled out completely in order for a student-athlete to be cleared. No partial packets will be accepted.

Genoa Lakes hosts ladies' event


The Genoa Lakes Ladies Golf Club played host to the Incline Village Teesters at a Home & Home Tournament in May.


More than 40 golfers competed in the event with teams of four competing using the two best-ball gross scores and a special team handicap.


First-place honors went to the team of Gail Teig, Sherry Valenta and Jeanne Whited, assisted by a blind draw (164). In second place was Sandy Cable, Gerri Francis, Judy McLennan and Shirley Navone (170). The team of Diana Mayring, Margit Duerling, Barbara List and Barbara Ferguson (171) took third and in fourth was the team of Geri Wilk, Deborah Patchett, Sue Price and Terry Anderson (172). Closest to the pin honors went to Martha Barneson and Ardele Juskalian.




Holes in one at Genoa Lakes


The Genoa Lakes Golf Club and Resort had a pair of aces on May 15.


Annie Meyer hit a hole-in-one on the 110-yard No. 8 at the Lakes Course. She used a pitching wedge. Beth Juri, Lucille Bucholte and Jan Pierce witnessed the shot.


Lori Church aced the 97-yard No. 17 on the Resort Course with a 9 wood. Betty Barnes, Karen Bruner and Kay Main witnessed the shot.




CV Men's Golf Club


The Carson Valley Men's Golf Club hosted a match play tournament over the weekend at the Carson Valley Golf Course.


In the A flight, Dave Probert and Tom Betterton tied for first and Rodger Hala and Gary Schreiber tied for third.


Jim Korzeniewski took fifth.


In the B flight, John Dorman too first, Stan Sherwood finished second, Ken Sharples tooked third, Jim Gaughan took fourth and John R. Miller and Randy Patterson tied for fifth.


In the C flight, Richard Ryan took first, Ray Gardiol finished second, Gil Causton took third and Gerry Bing and Jim Powell tied for fourth.

Pop Warner sign-ups open


Sign-ups for the 2006 Pop Warner football and cheerleading season are open.


Divisions include Tiny Mite (5-7-year-olds, 35-75 pounds), Mitey Mite (7-9, 45-90), Junior Pee Wee (8-10, 55-100 or 11, 55-80), Pee Wee (9-11, 70-115 or 12, 70-95), Junior Midget (10-12, 80-130 or 13, 80-105) and Midget (11-14, 95-150 or 15, 95-130).


Cost is $125 per football player with $20 for each additional family member. For cheerleading the cost is $60 per cheerleader plus a $210 fee for cheer uniforms, sweats and shoes.


All fees go up $25 after June 1.


A parent or guardian must be present for all athletes and a certified state-issued birth certificate, a 2005-06 year-end report card and current weight for the football player must be provided.


All sign-ups are at the Douglas County Sheriff's Office. Dates include May 22 from 6 to 7:30 p.m. and June 12 from 6 to 7:30 p.m.

Death Ride volunteers needed


Plans for the 2006 Tour of the California Alps - Death Ride are in full swing and volunteers are needed for the event.

Volleyball clinics offered


The Capital City Volleyball Club will conduct several summer clinics and summer leagues for girls in grades 3 through 12.


All clinics and leagues will be at the Silver State Athletic Center, located at 5680 Morgan Mill Road in Carson City.


The seperate three-day clinics will be run by Capital City head coach Dan McLaughlin, whose high school team at Whittell had won four state championships and by four-time national championship coach Steve George.


The all skills clinic will be July 21-23.


The setters and hitters clinic will be July 28-30 and the "Get ready for varsity" clinic will be Aug. 4-6.


Times for each clinic are Fridays 5:30 to 8 p.m., Saturdays 9:30-3 p.m. and Sundays 1 to 3 p.m. Cost for each clinic is $75.


Capital City will also be organizing and conducting summer leagues with players divided into age/grade levels third-fifth, sixth-eighth and ninth-12th. Leagues will run two nights per week from July 5 to August 11. Cost is $75.
