A Carson City man was injured Friday in a rollover accident on Highway 395 near Leviathan Mine Road south of Gardnerville.
Marcos Morales, 21, told Nevada Highway Patrol troopers he was driving north on Highway 395 a mile south of the intersection at 4:25 a.m. when he blacked out and drifted across the opposing lanes and into the gravel shoulder.
The 2005 Pontiac Grand Am Morales was driving traveled for about 500 feet before he work up, overcorrected and caused the vehicle to rollover. The Grand Am came to rest on its top.
According to a highway patrol spokeswoman, Morales was cited for being under the influence of a controlled substance.
n An 18-year-old Gardnerville man was jailed May 31 on $25,000 bail accused of shoplifting a bottle of vodka from a grocery store.
Christopher Evans Tipton was charged with burglary and minor consuming alcohol. According to reports, Tipton and a friend were observed wandering through Scolari's about 1 a.m.
A clerk watched Tipton leave the store and noticed a bottle bulging in the front pocket of a sweatshirt.He also had a 20-ounce soft drink and three pairs of gloves. The total in items was $24.25.
Tipton reportedly told deputies he had no money and came to the store to get something to drink.
n A Luning, Nev., woman was sentenced Friday to 90 days in Douglas County Jail for probation violations after she was found in the Bodie Flat area with drugs and paraphernalia in her vehicle.
Deputies responding May 31 to a call of a sniper in the Pine Nuts found Judy LaFountain, 39, on tribal allotment property sitting outside a gray bus.
The deputy said she appeared nervous and he watched her throw something on the ground.
At first, she denied she had drugs, but allowed the deputy to search her vehicle.
He found white residue on a metal spoon, a hypodermic needle full of water and a white powdery substance, a cylinder full of a white substance and a small scale.
East Fork acting justice Richard Glasson sentenced LaFountain to 180 days in Douglas County Jail, with half suspended for a year on the condition that she violate no laws. He also ordered her to complete 100 hours of community service at the Douglas Senior Center.
She is forbidden to consume drugs and alcohol.
A hearing is set for Wednesday on new charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
n The Douglas County Sheriff's Office reported 13 contacts for domestic violence May 24-30.
Six calls were verbal domestics with five arrests for domestic battery, including three juvenile arrests. Two contacts were referred to the District Attorney's office for review or prosecution. Ten juveniles witnessed domestic violence for a total of 13 juvenile contacts.
The Family Support Council submitted two requests to East Fork Justice Court for temporary restraining orders with two approvals. One request is pending. Three requests were submitted for anti-stalking and harassment orders with two approvals and one denial.
Connie Richardson, sheriff's office domestic violence prevention coordinator, said the average number of contacts is 12-14 for this time of year. The average range for children witnessing domestic violence is 9-11 per week with 0-2 juvenile suspects per week.
