Seven Douglas High School students received honors in two state-wide math contests.

The 2006 Nevada Prize Examination in Mathematics was given March 11 with approximately 1,100 students from 22 high schools from Nevada participating.

There were 43 Douglas students who took the 110-minute Nevada State Prize Examinations.

Renee Johnston was honored for submitting the top exam from Douglas. She and Ben Johnson also received certificates of merit for scoring in the top 10 percent of the state.

There were 51 students who participated in the American Mathematics Contest. The school's 10th-grade winner was Robbie Forest and Janna Turadek was the 11th/12th grade test winner.

Turadek, along with Annie Austin, Harmony Bennington and Krista Noone had Douglas' top four scores.

Turadek and Austin also qualified for the American Invitational Mathematics Examination. The three-hour exam was taken without the use of calculators and was by invitation only.

Three Douglas students placed prominently in the math contests in 2005: Turadek was in the top ten percent on the Nevada State Prize Exam, Johnston was third place in the American Math Contest and Johnson was the 10th-grade winner of the American Math Contest.
