The second stage of the Northern Nevada Junior Satellite Tournament Series was conducted in Reno recently.

Refusing to just block the ball back, Nick Goodner, 7, used aggressive power drives to win the boys' 10 challenger division. In the finals, he hit 20 outright winners and won 6-0 6-1.

Amelia Ritger, 12, was seeded No. 1 in the girls' 14 bracket. In the semifinales, she played a grueling 3.5-hour marathon with Shelly Tune, 13, of Reno.

Ritger trailed in the first set 3-5 and came back to win it 7-5. With many games going to duece, she lost the second set 3-6.

In the third set she got behind 0-5 and came back to tie it, but ended up dropping the set 5-7 after ceasing to contest a questionable call in the spirit of good sportsmanship.

The next junior satellite event will be held at Incline Village on June 9 through 11. For more details, see the bulletin board at the Lampe Park Tennis Courts.
