Town workers help church graffiti clean-up

It was the Town of Gardnerville's maintenance crew to the rescue on Tuesday when three of the town's churches were hit by graffiti.

Town manager Jim Park said the crew had a long day helping clean off the satanic paint job Trinity Lutheran Church suffered.

You can't just paint over Trinity, because it has those red brick walls, so crew members used a steam cleaner to strip the paint off.

All reports are that they were successful and it appears the deputies have had some luck in finding the perpetrators.

Shepherd of the Sierra Pastor E.D. Thyr said one of his more conservative parishioners suggested the graffiti might have been encouraged by the media. I tend to agree that the June 6, 2006, date probably had a lot to do with the content and targets of choice. But I suspect that as long as paint comes in spray cans, there will be someone trying to leave their mark where it doesn't belong.

The route of the tour will keep pretty close to the center of town with a detour onto Nixon Street and then back down Poplar.

Dianne Borges had a chance to explore the route at last weekend's Genoa Home Tour.
