A lot at Highway 395 and Waterloo Lane is being cleared to make way for a Walgreens.

A collection of mature trees on the lot was cut down and site work is under way.

Plans for a 14,800-square-foot retail pharmacy on the vacant lot were approved last March by the Gardnerville Town Board.

The store would be surrounded by 78 parking spaces and landscaping is planned for the outer perimeter.

Plans are for the store to be open 24 hours a day with a double drive-through on the north side of the building so customers can fill prescriptions.

To mitigate congestion, access to Highway 395 will be limited to right-turn movement and the plan incorporates roadway improvements and traffic control devices.
