The Douglas County Senior Center offers activities throughout each month. The center is located at 2300 Meadow Lane, right next to Lampe Park and just behind Sharkey's. For information on the following events, call the senior center at 783-6455.
n An Apple Hill trip is planned for the Douglas County Senior Center on Thursday. Three wineries will be visited. Participants must sign up to attend. The bus leaves at 8 a.m. at the senior center. Call the center for details.
n Carson Valley Bingo is an afternoon of community bingo on Sunday at the Douglas County Senior Center. This month the progressive pot has reached $400 and 54 numbers. Doors open at noon with early bird games starting at 1 p.m. and regular games beginning about 1:30 p.m. Coffee, ice tea, popcorn and desserts are provided for free. Hot dogs, burritos and soda are available for a nominal donation. All proceeds go to benefit the Young at Heart Citizens Club which supports activities and programs for the senior community. n Join Ray and Esther and the Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club in their monthly hikes. Saturday, June 24, they will be hiking to Markleeville Falls. Common benefits of hiking are weight loss, decrease in blood pressure, helps prevent osteoporosis by improving bone density and relieves back pain. Future hikes include Cascade Falls and Winnemucca Lake. The hiking bus will depart from the Douglas County Senior Center at 8 a.m. Wear comfortable shoes.
n Master Gardeners will be at the Green Thumb Club meeting on Monday, June 26. The Green Thumb Club meets each month at 10 a.m. at the Douglas County Senior Center. This month's topic is "all about roses" presented by Harriet Althouse. For more information, call the senior center.
n Young at Heart Senior Citizens Club is sponsoring a trip to Boomtown on Wednesday, July 26. The cost is $21 of which $15 will be refunded in gambling and food credits. The trip will leave from Smith's parking lot in Gardnerville at 8 a.m. and return about 4:30 p.m. The money needs to be paid by July 10.
